No, not the day for bar hopping, but the day LIGHT came out from that corner of the basement where I write and into the world where others can see it. My vulnerabily may exceed my pride about this book. I'd hoped that my first book would be a poetry collection or a page-turner novel, not a memoir that's been called tender, yet brutally honesty and raw in places. Perhaps that's how life is for all of us, but the show and tell that memoirs are made of is scary. All too real.
Two other good things happened today.
My son Mike's birthday. An early Sunday morning arrival, this English nursery rhyme, fits his genial self. "And a child that is born on the Sabbath day/is bonny and blithe, and good and gay." Son, brother, husband, uncle, surfer, snowboarder, mountain biker, fisheries biolgist, and great pie maker, Mike is one bonny guy.
The second thing happened when I volunteered at our local food shelf. Forty families now have food for the upcoming week. But beyond food, gorgeous bouquets of fresh flowers had been donated for all of them. These flowers made our shoppers smile. Sure we need the basics for survival, but the flowers brought joy on this August day.
